Introduction

This narrative report of the Inclusive Pedestrian Environments project supplements the literature review. It includes the necessary explanations of method, working hypotheses and final recommendations. In addition, during the process of review and analysis it became clear to the team and to members of the National Advisory Board that two additional narrative sections would be useful to the variety of intended audiences.

The first of those is a section on Pedestrian Advocacy Movements. This is so rich an opportunity for collaboration and coordination that it deserved to be organized as a distinct section, easy to peruse quickly and with many links to organizations and materials.

The second section is Case Studies. As it became clear that there was a gap between the quality of available information on accessible pedestrian environments and the practice of integrating that guidance in the field, it seemed desirable to look at a couple of success stories. They serve as brief illustrations, a brief analysis of procedures and relationships that have proven effective in a particular place.
