Abstract:

By studying 56 different neighborhoods in the Portland, Oregon area, the authors correlate physical and social variables with the level of older pedestrian activity. Their results showed significant variation between neighborhoods based built environment factors. Neighborhoods with more places of employment, more street intersections, more dense households, and more green and open spaces had more pedestrian activity.
