Abstract:

The researchers showed that design walking speed becomes inadequate when pedestrian flow volumes exceed the design Level-of-Service (LOS) at signalized crosswalks. At a test intersection, researchers found that the walking speed dropped from 3.9 ft/sec. at LOS C to 2.54 ft/sec. for LOS E. Samples were not sufficient to establish figures for LOS F.
