Abstract:

This paper further refines walking speeds based on gender and age (young, and over 60) for pedestrians using crosswalks. The slowest times for the 15th percentile was 3.34 feet per second. However, this does not include the hesitation time before starting to cross when starting from a standstill. It is still recommended to use as a design speed 3.25 feet per second or less.
