Abstract:

NOTE: THESE 1996 GUIDELINES ARE BEING REPLACED BY "Pedestrian Crossing Treatment Installation Guidelines", DRAFT OCTOBER 2005.

REVIEW OF THIS DOCUMENT WILL BE CONDUCTED WHEN IT IS FINALIZED.

The city's Pedestrian Crossing Treatment Guidelines are being updated to incorporate public comment and new pedestrian crossing treatments the city has experimented with since creating the guidelines in 1996. The guidelines outline criteria that assist staff in determining when it is appropriate to install crossing treatments and what type of treatment to install. The treatments include:

  • Standard crosswalks
  • School crosswalks
  • Special "State Law - Yield to Pedestrians" signage
  • Pedestrian actuated flashing beacons
  • Raised crossings on right turn bypass islands
  • Pedestrian actuated traffic signals
  • Median refuge islands
  • Underpasses and grade-separated crossings
